1st Draft of Final Post

The warnings of Dick Cheney that “there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump” and General Mattis that “he is more dangerous than anyone can imagine” have become a reality. Trump has consolidated all major sources of power under his command: key government officials are all unquestioned Trumpers, the military command is likewise obedient as is the entire military, alliance with far right and violent extremist groups is solidified, strong relationships with the huge right- wing money become even stronger, virtual control of the media through the FCC is accomplished, and close alignment with other world dictators, most notably Putin, becomes the new U.S. foreign policy.

Much of this will be accomplished in the first year, all within three years. The growing cloud of oppression can be felt across the country. Open civil dissent gradually dies. No meaningful media criticism survives. Liberal expression in academia and art is suppressed. The opportunity to aspire to the “American Dream” is reserved for those who have mostly already achieved it. This is no longer the U.S.A. – this is Russia II, which has always been Trump’s vision.

As in Russia, life in Russia II is devoid of much humor and joy. Even a bit of nagging fear adds to the stress of daily life. In addition to our freedom, we have lost a part of our humanity and certainly our quality of life.

My wife and I are in our late ‘70s. This blog is not so much for us.
